On most nights in the United States, over half a million people are without housing. On a single night in January 2015, for example, 564,708 people were homeless. Without housing, there’s little chance for regular meals. Homelessness and poverty are inextricably linked. Poor people are frequently unable to pay for housing, food, childcare, and healthcare. These families must make impossible choices when limited resources cover only some of life’s necessities. These stark facts weigh particularly heavy on the mind around the holidays, as temperatures dip and most people enjoy the heartwarming experience of sharing Thanksgiving with their families.
Giving back to our community is an important part of the Breezer culture, so last year the team members at Breezer Mobile Cooling decided to do something.
Breezer employees wanted to create a project to help the community during the holidays, so they participated in an event to feed homeless citizens. The Breezer team gave needy individuals meals the weekend after Thanksgiving, providing sandwiches, chips, and water. The team members at Breezer gave their time as well as money for supplies. They even made the lunches! While everyone at Breezer helped make this project a success, we’d like to highlight the efforts of Andrea Martin, Krystal Mahabir, Fazal Habibula, Monica Morantes, and Mark McIntosh for going above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly.
“We love to give,” explains Sarah Rickert of Breezer Mobile Cooling, “especially around Thanksgiving. Everyone deserves a meal.”
By donating time and funds for this project, Breezer employees worked together to brighten the day of the homeless. At Breezer Mobile Cooling, we spend a lot of time thinking about how to make sure people are comfortable and healthy. Our core product, the Power Breezer, is specifically designed to make sure workers in harsh environments can do their jobs without having to worry about the dangerous effects of heat. We believe it is essential to take care of people by addressing the fundamentals, one of which is the temperature of the environment. It’s easy to overlook such a simple thing, but it matters to health and wellbeing. The value we place on worker health is part of a bigger picture at Breezer Mobile Cooling.
Giving back to the community and promoting employee health are two values we hold dear. Because of our commitment to these values, the staff at Breezer welcomed the opportunity to make a difference. Helping the homeless with a fresh meal and cold water was a small gesture, but certainly improved one day in the lives of these individuals.
